Quarterly briefing – March 2026

Departmental Meetings
As part of the APPGs continual programme of engagement with Government, further meetings are being arranged with The Rt Hon Lisa Nandy MP, Secretary of State for Culture, Media & Sport and The Rt Hon Ian Murray MP, Minister of State Department for Science, Innovation and Technology, and Department for Culture, Media and Sport.

Industry Evidence Session
We are keen to hold an evidence session over the coming months, where we will invite a small number of industry representatives from a cross section of the events sector, to discuss key issues and opportunities with the APPG. This will be held in Parliament with the date and time to follow.

Metro Mayors Summit
You may recall that under the previous Chairmanship of Shaun Davies, he was keen to arrange a summit with the various Metro Mayors to discuss the business events sector and how we can work together to deliver further growth across the event economy. Martin is keen to continue with this plan, and we will be working on this over the coming months.

Access All Areas Report
Through The Business of Events, we published a report into accessibility in events, and the APPG are keen to hold a session to review the findings of the report and to look at ways in which they can support the work of the sector and to encourage the UK’s events sector to be as accessible and as welcoming as possible. You can read the report here

CMS Select Committee Report
You may recall that, alongside the AEV and ACC Liverpool, we gave evidence in December to the Culture, Media & Sport Select Committee inquiry into Major Events. As we understand that the committee’s report will be published shortly, the APPG will review the findings and recommendations, and ensure that these are highlighted in Parliament, and discussed directly with DCMS.

Annual General Meeting
Just a reminder that the APPG Annual General Meeting will take place on Wednesday 25th March at 12.30pm. If you would like to attend, please contact admin@appgevents.org for further details.

The Business of Events : Policy Forum
Invitations for this year’s Policy Forum, held again at IET London: Savoy Place on Tuesday 07 July 2026, will be going out in the next few weeks, and the APPG will be delivering an overview of its work and contributing actively to the content of the programme. If you would like further information on the forum, do let us know.

SEC Visit
Finally, as Martin’s constituency is in Glasgow, he will be taking the opportunity to visit APPG member the Scottish Event Campus on Friday, to meet with the team and to learn more about how the venue attracts major events to the City, and the benefits of having a highly active Convention Bureau in Glasgow.
